Event planing tips

“Who put me in charge?” That is a direct quote from me once every two weeks while I’m planning events. I was somehow gifted with the position as Philanthropy Vice President for Alpha Xi Delta at Ohio Northern. At first I was so excited to get the position, and don’t get me wrong I am still excited, but it comes with a lot of learning. I thought planning was easy and it comes naturally. I’m wrong as I usually am. The little details that come into planning a big non-profit event are so overwhelming.  I am currently planning a large food event called Fuzzie Fiesta. It is a delicious taco bar that I am praying makes enough money to meet our goals! I want to share some of my new found wisdom with everyone about planning college events. I want everyone in the world to be less stressed than I’ve been the last three months. Plan ahead When I say plan ahead, I mean ahead, like six months in advance. I thought I could plan an entire event in three months and it was straight chaos.

Top 10 Halloween Costumes

Halloween is one of the greatest holidays of the year, in my opinion. Everyone gets the chance to dress up and be whoever or whatever they want to be. 2019 Halloween was one for the books for all of the creative costumes I saw this year. Of course every year someone wears the classic costumes like a Playboy Bunny or a mermaid. Each year college students learn to be more and more creative. Here is a list of my top 10 favorite costumes from this year. Wreck-it Ralph and Vanellope Von Schweets All of the Fairly Odd Parents Mia Wallace Steve Erwin and an Alligator (This was the funniest one I saw) The Teletubbies A “party” animal Paired with a sign, “Do not feed the party animal” American Horror Stories seasons 1-6 My Friends and I were the witches from Coven Wesley and Princess Buttercup from The Princess Bride Harry Potter and his spirit animal A costume like this was by far the coolest Harry Potter themed look I’ve seen. I would have never thou

Chipotle really turned around its brand

Chipotle is a very sought-after fast-food chain with its true customization in its meals. The food is fast, fresh and seems very health conscious for most people. Chipotle has really blown up since the health craze of the last decade due to its delicious and safe ingredients.  Background Information and Research Chipotle faced a string of food safety crises starting in 2015 that led to a long and painful road of recovery. When the E. Coli. scare first broke it was a scary time for Chipotle. People became afraid to eat at the restaurant for fear of getting sick or worse. Even those who didn’t fear the E. Coli. just had a distaste for Chipotle after hearing of those who fell ill.  The brand needed to find a way to revamp the Chipotle name while also making a comeback from this crisis. Marketing would be one of the critical roles played during the comeback story of Chipotle.  Campaign and Results Chipotle had a decentralized marketing model that flooded the market with pro

15 things a college student thinks about before finals.

All college student’s go through the same process and the end of each semester. From grades to what they are eating for dinner all students are panicking as the cloud of final exams hovers over them. This is a list of 15 things that go through a students mind at the end of the semester. “Wait… is it really week eight already?” “Do you think if I turned in that assignment from week three I’d get credit?” Taking a 20 minute nap is higher on the to-do list than the final paper “I can watch one more episode before I study.” “How many weeks or just ramen noodles for dinner is too many?” “Okay I finished the first 100 words of my 10 page paper, I can scroll through social media for at least an hour.” “I’ve been watching Facebook videos for how long?” Creates a to-do list to be ahead for the week, but still doesn’t complete the tasks on time. “Maybe if I ask nicely I can get an extension on this assignment.” “Oh yeah I study for at least eight hours for this ex

Give a Kiss and get free Qdoba

In 2011 Qdoba Mexican Grill launched its first BOGO for a Kiss on Valentine’s day. It had an emphasis on local market media attention. After success with the 2011 campaign it restarted the campaign again in 2012 but expanded it to be national due to the popularity of the bogo promotion.  Qdoba was especially pleased to expand the campaign and obtain additional franchise support based on the PR results secured from 2011. Campaign and Results Qdoba’s campaign focused on bringing in a significant other, family member, or friend and giving them a kiss for a bogo meal. Qdobas corporate PR team worked closely with the regional marketing specialists to develop a unique business strategy for more than 15 local markets. Denver metro, Philadelphia, Boston, St. Louis and Minneapolis.  Since the bogo deal was a one-day event - February 14th - a combination of pre and day-of media and influencer outreach was a critical component to achieve customer awareness about 500 participating sto

Condado Tacos

Image
Ada, Ohio is not the greatest place to live when you like to eat a variety of foods. The small town has a total of 10 restaurants and two of those restaurants are fast food. My personal favorite genre of food to eat is Mexican. Ada only has one Mexican restaurant in town and it is very classic American which gets old quickly.  I got the chance to head into Dublin, Ohio to check out Condado this past weekend. Condado is a modern make-your-own taco restaurant allowing customers to get creative with interesting, high-quality ingredients. If the customer isn’t feeling creative they can pick from an assortment of tacos which don’t need customization.  I was not feeling creative so I decided to choose from the menu of different tacos. I chose the special of the month which was a walking taco with ground beef and a ranch sauce packed into a bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. I’m a sucker for a walking taco so I really enjoyed the twist on such a classic food.  While waiting for my walking
