Forming Connections with Social Media

Every person has a show they enjoy binge-watching and my guilty pleasure is “The Bachelor”. I can’t decide if it is the attractive man going on whimsical dates or the ultimate drama that ensues. I never used to be interested in the show I thought it was boring and overrated. Then ABC stepped up their advertisement and suddenly my twitter feed was flooded with content focused on Colton Underwood. I found it incredible that something so small was able to convince me to spend every Monday night watching a show for two straight hours. I then realized how ingrained and important social media is to our daily decisions. Companies are beginning to use their social media accounts to grab the attention of internet users in a brand new way.

An example is ABC and “The Bachelor”. They continually post about the most suspenseful scenes of the episodes. It draws in the viewers of the show and continually gets them to tune into the new episodes. Another example would be Chipotles twitter. The company continually tweets content that will go viral. It draws in attention from people who enjoy the food and agree with the funny tweets. The company's most recent tweet focused on two of the most popular topping for their food and noted which one was the company’s favorite. It was stated as an unpopular opinion which had people freaking out everywhere. Even hometown bars are beginning to advertise out important things to viewers. The Reagle Beagle in Ada, Ohio recently got a twitter and their tweets have been bringing more attention to the specials they have and bringing in more business. Social media builds relationships between viewers and bigger companies without a true face.

Without social media, I would have never found a show that was as addicting as “The Bachelor”. Social media plays such an important role in our lives and the choices we make. Everything boils down to what we see daily and we have all this information at the tips of our fingers. Hopefully as social media evolves we as the viewers will be able to fit the information they receive more to what they enjoy to see.
