Interview with Greg Phipps

This past week I was given the chance to talk to one of the multimedia journalism professors Greg Phipps. We were able to have a conversation on the changes in media since he began his journey in television and video. I really enjoyed getting to learn about his life and what he has learned.     This is a great interview. It's cool how he started out with music and combined it with technology and engineering to get where he is. It's great how times have changed so we can go into journalism and multimedia without an engineering degree.

Stuck at home for spring break

Spring break for college students is always an interesting time of the year. As students, we are as broke as a person can be, yet we still plan crazy expensive trips to Florida each spring break. I am very broke and also have very broke friends so each year I spend spring break in cold, dreary Ohio. Learning to feed the content monster

Social media is a great tool and I’ve been using it ever since my mom let me get facebook when I was maybe 12 years old. Which now that I think about it is too young to be on the internet with a public profile. My facebook still has embarrassing photos of me from 7th grade I swear. In my social media principles class, we are reading a book by Guy Kawasaki called, The Art of Social Media . I’ve only read the first three chapters so far, but each page is beyond insightful. One of my favorite sections is about “feeding the content monster” which is exactly what blogging is like. Finding content, creating said content, and making it interesting enough that those viewing it don’t click away. That may seem easy but it really isn’t. The most useful tip in chapter two for me is the idea of creating an editorial calendar. This is essentially a map of what content to post when, where, why, and to whom. Getting involved on campus

“What clubs or organizations are you involved in?” That statement is actually the worst question to get asked right behind, “So, What are you doing after graduation?” This is asked by parents, friends, strangers, future employers… you never know. Having nothing to respond with and just babbling nonsense of how you are really busy with classes or you don’t really know because you are in a broad field is the wrong thing to say. I know this through a lot of experience from interviews to extended-family vacations, I’m here to give everyone tips of how to get more involved on ONU’s campus. Go to activity fairs Each semester the University holds activity fairs full of clubs and organizations looking to let everyone in. Most clubs and orgs.
