College scandals

Scandals on social media calm down and quickly as they break. Recently news has come out that 50 different celebrities have paid off big name colleges to let their children into the University. This is such a big deal because of the line it makes in social status because they have money. These celebrities used their wealth and status to take less fortunate kids spots at those universities. The biggest name that came out of this was Lori Loughlin, who played Aunt Becky in Full House, and her daughter Olivia Jade.

What made this worse for Loughlin was the fact that Olivia Jade is very active on social media. Jade has a vlog channel on Youtube where she admits to not caring about college. Jade explained that she only wanted to go for the experience and the parties. This was not a big deal until this scandal surfaced and it revealed how she got into USC.

On top of Loughlin getting ripped apart on social media, Jade decided to announce that she was dropping out of USC days after the scandal dropped. I don’t think this has much to do with Olivia Jade. It seems as if she didn’t know this was happening and she got in fair and square. Using social media to talk about such scandals is hard because you never actually know the truth. The only people who know the actual truth is the family. People have used this as a chance to get 15 minutes of fame on Youtube by making videos about going to school with Olivia Jade or why they think the scandal is real.

Thankfully the scandal news is old, and it is starting to settle down. That means something else is about to break so get ready.

  1. I 100% agree with you. I have tried to follow this story, but it seems very broken. I just don't see the need for someone to bribe their way into college when they don't even care about it.

  2. I wrote about this topic this week as well and it came out today that Olivia might have had an idea about it from a video she posted in late 2017. It's crazy how all of this is happening, especially since there are so many students who would have been able to get the scholarships they were wrongfully given. It's sad, but hopefully there are more careful precautions in the future with admissions at schools.

  3. It’s very hard for me to wrap my mind around a story like this. Bribing your way into college is just a rediculous thing to do and they should receive the scrutiny they are getting.

  4. In all honesty, this is the first time hearing this story and it is shocking! I could never bribe my way into college and not feel like a terrible person.
